Ohio’s #1 Lightning Protection Service
The Chagrin Valley is hunt country — large homes on wooded acres, horse farms with barns and arenas, and tall trees along the river hills. Storms rolling off Lake Erie find the valley's high ground and high barns first. We protect the whole property — house, barn, and arena.
Hunting Valley and Gates Mills sit in the wooded hills above the Chagrin River, where properties run large and private: long driveways, mature hardwood canopy, barns and indoor arenas for the valley's horse farms, and homes that stand well above the surrounding terrain. Tall structures on high, wooded ground — with horses, hay, and tack concentrated in the barn — carry real lightning exposure through Ohio's storm season.
WB Lightning Rods protects Chagrin Valley properties the way we've protected farms and homes since 1950: complete systems for the residence, barns, stables, and arenas, each designed for its structure and grounds. Grounding is designed with pastures, lanes, and waterers in mind, conductors are routed discreetly on historic and newer homes alike, and every installation is done by our experienced crew and personally supervised by the owner.
On a horse farm, the barn holds the horses, the hay, and the tack all at once. A single strike can end an operation in minutes — protection costs a fraction of that risk.
A strike doesn't have to hit the barn. Current spreading through wet ground, fencing, and water lines from a nearby strike can reach horses in pastures and paddocks — grounding design around livestock areas matters.
Valley ridges and mature canopy put homes and barns at the top of the terrain. Height plus isolation is exactly the profile a protection system is designed for.
One company for the whole property — homes, farms, barns, trees, and every building in between, anywhere in Ohio.
Complete lightning rod systems for houses of every size, designed around your roofline — the work WB has done since 1950.
Protection designed in while the house goes up — new homes and barns rising across the Chagrin Valley, protected from day one.
Discreet, low-profile systems for Ohio's older farmhouses and historic homes — protection you have to look for to see.
Barns, stables, and arenas protected along with the residence — horses, hay, and tack, all covered.
Agricultural buildings, equipment shops, and hay storage — the tallest structures on the farm, and the ones lightning finds first.
Multi-building packages for farms — we protect all of your buildings — house, barns, shops, and sheds — with a lifetime of protection.
Mature oaks, maples, and specimen trees protected with their own terminals and grounding, so a shade tree never becomes the strike path to your roof.
Neighbors who install together save together — neighborhood discounts on multi-home packages for your road or valley lane.
Complete installations and repairs — that’s the work. Already have a system? We inspect it, repair storm damage and wear, and bring older installations up to current NFPA 780 standards. We make old systems great again.
Building new? We design and install protection while the home or barn is going up — cleaner cable runs, nothing retrofitted after the fact.
Every WB system is built to NFPA 780 guidelines using UL-listed materials — and designed for Hunting Valley & Gates Mills specifically, not copied from a template.
Placed along home rooflines, barn ridges, cupolas, and arena peaks — the high points lightning seeks first in the Chagrin Valley.
Copper or aluminum cables routed discreetly along rooflines and building lines, carrying strikes down and away from the structures.
Deep-driven ground rods at every down conductor, sited with care to keep ground current away from pastures, paddocks, and waterers, and bonded together.
Metal roofing, water lines, fencing near structures, and electrical systems bonded into the system to prevent dangerous side-flashes.
Barns, stables, arenas, garages, and guest houses incorporated into the property plan — no building left exposed.
A Chagrin Valley property is rarely just a house: there's a barn and arena, a garage or guest house, fenced pastures, and acres of mature trees. Our whole-property packages price and protect all of it as one design — every building covered, grounding laid out around the livestock areas — instead of protecting the house and leaving the barn to chance.
The same crew and owner supervision cover homes across the valley — Gates Mills, Hunting Valley, Chagrin Falls, Moreland Hills, and the townships beyond. And because WB serves all of Ohio statewide, a valley farm and a second property anywhere in the state are one call, one company.

Yes — ground current is the usual mechanism. A strike to a tree, fence, or open ground sends current spreading through wet soil, and horses standing in that path can be killed without any structure being touched. Protecting buildings and designing grounding around paddocks, lanes, and waterers reduces the risk substantially.
Yes. Arenas, barns, and stables are core work for us — tall, wide-span structures get their own terminals, conductors, and grounding, designed in with the residence as one whole-property plan.
Very little. We use low-profile terminals and route conductors along the lines the architecture already has. Many Chagrin Valley homes are historic, and discreet design is a goal on every one.
A tall tree close to a building can side-flash a strike into the roof or send current through roots toward the foundation. We protect specimen trees with their own terminals and grounding, and factor nearby trees into every design.
No — that's a dangerous myth. A metal roof doesn't safely ground a strike. Bonded into a proper system with terminals, conductors, and grounding, the whole structure is covered.
It depends on the number and size of buildings and grounding conditions — which is exactly why whole-property packages price the property as a whole instead of building by building. Estimates are free, many start from satellite imagery, and every system carries a lifetime warranty on parts and labor with a 5-year maintenance check at no cost.
